What to expect?

First thing is to discuss what the goals are for each athlete.  I also like to find out what the athlete thinks their strengths and weaknesses are and talk about the mental game a bit. For example, if we are working on hitting, I analyze their swing and teach them my 8 step breakdown of the swing. We then work on making their weaknesses their strengths. A lot of my training consists of building self confidence and improving the mental game along with the physical aspects. I want to teach you to think ahead of the plays and get you to a level of play that exceeds your age.

My goal is to take you to the next level (assuming that's your goal too).

Jen's Coaching Experience

Past softball coaching experience includes 8 years of D.III College Head and Assistant Coach, 2 years of 18U Travel Team, current instructor at Performing Sport Systems, Dig In Baseball & BCC Baseball; training ages 7 years and up. Jen recently started a new program with the BCC Baseball organization to transition girls playing rec ball to travel ball at the 12U & 14U age group. Jen has also worked with individuals, small groups, team training and clinics with different organizations all around the DC Metro Area since 2000. Her degree was in Kinesiology and thesis was on mental training so she incorporates a lot of the mental game into her training sessions. Jen also has a personal training background which compliments the sessions since so much of training has to do with proper mechanics and body alignment to prevent injury and maximize the full potential of each athlete.

Jen's Playing Experience

Jen began her softball career at the age of 6 playing in local leagues in Ventura County, Ca. She played all 4 years at Westlake High School in Westlake, California.  From high school she attended Moorpark Community College and was a 2 year starter at 1st base. Jen was named Offensive & Defensive player of the year for her first season (1994) with the MC Raiders with a batting avg. of .409, 4 home runs & 7 triples . And in her sophomore year, Jen help lead the team to win the Western State Conference after an amazing 18-0 season.  That year Jen was named Offensive player of the year and set the school record for most put-outs at 393 and batted .419. Jen was also awarded with the Western State Conference player of the year in 1995 (1 player chosen by 18 teams) and All-State Junior College Honorable Mention for 1st base.

What her college coach said: Handling first base duties will be Westlake High standout Jennifer Edwards. A first team all-leaguer, Edwards is a very versatile threat at the plate. A good bunter, she can slap, has great speed, and can hit the long ball. On defense, she is as strong as they come. "Jennifer has the talent and attidtude to be the best first baseman in Moorpark history. She is so aggressive on both offense and defense, she will be a joy to watch for the next two years," says Dow (head coach).

After getting her Associates Degree, Jen and her fellow teammate accepted full ride softball scholarships to division I Texas State.  Jen was awarded MVP tournament player in the San Diego State Tournament, and tied the school record for 2 triples in 1 game.

Here is what her Texas State coach said:

Junior college transfer Jennifer Edwards, will look to solidify not only the first base posiition, but the clean up spot in the batting order, as well. "I'm expecting big things from Jennifer," Jarvis said. "She is a steady fielder, who makes the plays she's supposed to. Offesively, when the situation presents itself, she is one of the players we will depend on to drive in runs."

After college, Jen enjoyed playing with some great retired college players in an adult fastpitch league and currently plays on a co-ed slow pitch team.
